Hardwood options available to you

When most people think about hardwood floors, they think first of the solid wood variety, as it is absolutely the most popular and the most sought after. Your other option is engineered flooring. While still made of real wood, it only features a veneer of that material encased between a core and a protective wear layer. All the layers are then attached to a stable backing material that offers plenty of benefits of its own.

With solid hardwood flooring, you’ll be able to choose characteristics such as species type, stain color, and the perfect finish. Each of these gives you more opportunities to create a truly unique look for your home. With engineered flooring, you’ll still get to choose a species and stain color, but your options will be a bit more limited. In short, if you’re looking for plenty of unique options and choices, you’ll want to stick with a solid variety. Engineered is the better choice for someone that’s not as concerned with the fine details.

Both products can also be refinished. The refinishing process can easily strip away years of abuse and wear, leaving you with a floor that looks brand new again. It takes decades before refinishing is necessary, and once completed, you’ll have decades more time before you have to do it again. Solid floors can be refinished several times, while engineered flooring can only be refinished once or twice, depending on thickness.
